Space Coast Mental Health Counselors Association (SCMHCA) is a chapter of Florida Mental Health Counselors Association (FMHCA).

Protecting, sustaining, and advancing the profession of mental health counseling in the State of Florida is our guiding motto. We have served mental health counselors for more than 20 years, in a variety of professional ways. Our members believe in advocating for the advancement of mental health counseling professionals.

The chapter’s objective is to provide education, legislative oversight, and networking. Membership is open to any counseling profession; from licensed mental health counselors, marriage and family therapists, social workers, registered interns, students, and retirees.

What area constitutes the "Space Coast" of Florida?

The Space Coast is considered the cities around Kennedy Space Center in Brevard County, Florida. It includes:  Barefoot Bay, Cape Canaveral, Cocoa, Cocoa Beach, Grant/Valkaria, Indialantic, Indian Harbor Beach, Malabar, Melbourne, Melbourne Beach, Melbourne Village, Palm Bay, Palm Shores, Port St. John, Rockledge, Satellite Beach, Titusville, and West Melbourne.

How much does membership cost?

Membership dues are paid yearly.  Licensed members pay $40 and non-licensed members pay $30 for membership.

Who sits on the Board of Directors of SCMHCA?

The Board of Directors are members who volunteered to serve on the board and were elected into office.  The offices include president, vice president, secretary, and a treasurer.  A board member serves for one year.  Not all board members must be licensed.

Are there any other positions besides the Board of Directors?

There are five standing committees: legislative action, education and training, membership, community relations, and student affairs.  The committee chairs are appointed by the president and voted on by the board.  All committee chairs serve on the board and have voting privileges.

What networking/training opportunities are available?

SCMHCA hosts at least four educational trainings per year free of charge to current members.  Recently, SCMHCA has partnered with the Indian River Florida Psychological Association to bring more trainings to the Space Coast for counselors. Counselor Connections provide opportunities for networking and visiting other local counselor locations.  In addition, all members that would like to learn more about the chapter are invited to become a board member or attend the monthly board meeting. SCMHCA is always looking for members to become more involved, so please contact us with your requests and ideas.
