GRC (Government Relations Committee) July Meeting Notes

The detailed notes for the July GRC meeting can be found HERE!  Please note, these notes are AI generate.  Therefore, you may see some minor grammar errors or context that is slightly off, but overall they are a well organized record of the discussions, outcomes, and action steps moving forward.

Below are a couple of highlights from the meeting that your legislative chair wants to bring to your attention from the meeting:

  • Starting with 2025 licensure renewals, LMHC’s will be required to complete a level 2 background check. This will include fingerprinting at the cost of $75 for the initial process and renewed every five years for $42.
  • We will be moving forward with a proposal this fall to the chapter 491 board to add language that prevents us from including copyrighted testing data with the release of clinical records. Currently, we are able to state that data is copyrighted, but we do not have actual language in our policy’s to protect us from withholding that information.
  • The board is now requiring that both qualified supervisors and interns keep a log of their supervision hours using THIS LOG.
  • We have subcommittees advocating with both the Department of Education as well as the Division of Vocational Education to accept diagnosis and recommended accommodations from chapter 491 licensed professionals. They currently only accept this information from physicians, psychologists, and psychiatrists.
  • Our lobbyist, Corinne, is monitoring legislative shifts and policy development.  She shared that  legislative leaders that were roadblocks to our proposed bills will be getting reassigned to other committees while our previous bill sponsors are expected to serve another term.  Therefore, this year has some significant potential for us! A subcommittee is actively working on a webinar to train members how to interact with legislation to advocate for our license and supporting bills.  Stay tuned for more ways for you to get involved!
