GRC Legislative Update – February 18, 2026
The Government Relations Committee (GRC) met on February 18, 2026. Our professional lobbyist, Corinne Mixon, provided a legislative update from Tallahassee. Unfortunately, this has been a historically slow legislative session. To date, only one bill has successfully passed, and with approximately two weeks remaining, it is unlikely we will see significant movement.
As a result, the GRC has decided to shift our traditional Legislative Days efforts this year. Instead, we will encourage each chapter to connect with their local legislators during the summer months, when schedules are lighter and meaningful relationship-building can occur. Additional guidance and participation opportunities will be shared soon.

The SCMHCA Legislative Chair, Kristin Woodling, had the honor of participating in a collaborative initiative between the Florida Mental Health Counselors Association (FMHCA) and the Florida Family Therapy Alliance (FFTA). This taskforce published a comprehensive report detailing all disciplinary proceedings finalized by the Chapter 491 Board during the 2023–2024 fiscal year.
This report is designed to support practicing therapists, educators, supervisors, and students by offering transparency, trends, and educational insight into board actions. The intent is to produce this report annually, with work beginning soon on the 2024–2025 fiscal year review.
The report can be accessed on FMHCA’s website here:

(It is also attached for your convenience.)
We extend sincere appreciation to the Taskforce members who contributed to this project — Lauren Baxley, Primrose Humphries, Lauren Peddie-Bravo, Taurean Wilson, and Kristin Woodling — as well as Ashleigh Irving, Executive Director of the 491 Board, and her team for their collaboration and support in developing this important resource.
